Following in the tradition of the Black Keys and the White Stripes, the Pack A.D. play a blend of rock and electric blues. The female duo is comprised of drummer Maya Miller and vocalist/guitarist Becky Black, both of whom left their previous Pixies-styled band to focus on bluesier music. After emerging in 2006 as one of Vancouver's more buzzworthy bands, the Pack A.D. signed with Mint Records in 2007 and released a debut album, Tintype, the following January. Funeral Mixtape, the duo's second offering, was issued eight months later. The group toured heavily in support of both releases and eventually returned to Vancouver, where the bandmembers holed themselves up at Hive Studios and began tinkering with new sounds. Although still a blues band at heart, the Pack A.D. found themselves drawn to punk and garage rock, both of which steered the sound of 2010's We Kill Computers in a slightly different direction.~ Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide
Assjack is one of the three features of Hank Williams III’s live show, and they started off playing the Hellbilly material throughout 1999-2002, until they evolved in to a strictly hardcore/punk metal band. The band features Hank Williams III on guitar and vocals and Gary Lindsey on vocals. Assjack has had various musicians on all instruments over the years. but, Gary has been consistent on vocals for several years now. Bassist Joe Buck was also a consistent member for many years. However he left the band in 2008 to concentrate on his one man solo show called Joe Buck Yourself. Assjack released 3 bootlegs CD’s and in 2009 they released their first official self titled debut album. The official Assjack album features only Hank III. He does all the instruments & vocals. the album was also recorded & produced by him.
As frontman of the Black Keys, vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach embraced the raw sound of electric blues-rock alongside drummer Pat Carney. The Ohio-based band released a string of acclaimed albums during the early 2000s, including the Top 20 hit Attack & Release, before Auerbach opted to branch out with a concurrent solo career. Having built his own studio in Akron, OH, the songwriter began recording new material that melded his bluesy background with elements of psychedelia, country, and gospel. Recording sessions took place during the downtime between the Black Keys' tour dates, and Auerbach soon compiled enough material for a debut album. The resulting record, Keep It Hid, was released in 2009 by Nonesuch Records.~ Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide
Formed in May 2004, the band's name derives from the Velvet Underground song "The Black Angel's Death Song".
The group's debut LP Passover was generally well received in the underground independent rock community and was noted for its dark tones and lyrical content. A review of Passover described them as "Walking in the shadows cast by Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized mastermind Jason Pierce" and compared them to the Warlocks and Black Mountain, also invoking "dirges" reminiscent of both the Velvet Underground and the 13th Floor Elevators. Passover included a quote in the liner notes from Edvard Munch; "Illness, insanity, and death are the black angels that kept watch over my cradle and accompanied me all my life."
Los Tiki Phantoms' members are engimatic; all that is known is that they come from known bands from the Catalan scene. One point of distinction is their image: skull masks and leopard collar coats. Musically they move within the surf rock genre, clearly referring to Link Wray, los Straitjackets, the Champs etc, giving also a punk edge to it, demonstrated by the Dead Kennedys cover on their 2006 debut Regresan de la Tumba. Their live shows are rumoured to be devastating.
