The Quadrajets

Southern trash rockers the Quadrajets originally assembled frontman the Cheetah, guitarists Roman Hardwick P.I. and Jerome J. Jerome, bassist Catfish Plate and drummer Red Truth (the latter replaced in time by K.Y. Van Zant). The band debuted in the spring of 1995 with the Sympathy for the Record Industry LP When I Lay My Burden Down, followed a year later by Alabama Hip Shake; in the wake of completing 1998's Pay the Deuce, Van Zant was paralyzed in an auto accident, and with new drummer J.R.R. Tokken, the remaining Quadrajets forged on to record 2000's When the World's on Fire. It proved to be the last studio album for the group, who broke up the following year, though not before releasing a live album, If The Good Lord's Willing. Cheetah and Tokken later teamed up for the punk-blues duo the Immortal Lee County Killers.

Cash Money/Cash Audio

Previously known as Cash Money, Chicago's punky blues duo Cash Audio consists of former Rosehip Scott Giampino and John Humphrey, formerly of God and Texas and the Late Great Danes. Humphrey originally enlisted Giampino to play drums with the Late Great Danes in 1994, but when the band went on hiatus, they began performing as Cash Money. They debuted with the Oil Can/Helicopter Ride single on the tiny Tug-O-War label, which led to a deal with Touch and Go. Their first full-length Black Hearts and Broken Wills arrived in 1997, followed by the Letter to Stax single and second album Halos of Smoke and Fire the next year, both of which won the group critical acclaim. However, thanks to a lawsuit from the rap label of the same name, Cash Money had to change their name to Cash Audio in 1999. Green Bullet, their first album under that name, arrived the following year; after switching to the Orange imprint, they delivered the aptly named The Orange Sessions in early 2001.

Black Diamond Heavies

Stripping the deep blues to its frame and running the music through a big stack of amps while shaking it into a cold sweat, the Black Diamond Heavies are a band from East Nashville, TN, who prove that in terms of sonic impact and soulful energy, size doesn't matter much at all. The Black Diamond Heavies were formed by keyboard man and vocalist John Wesley Myers, Mark "Porkchop" Holder on guitar and harmonica, and drummer Van Campbell. Myers was previously a member of the feral blues-punk combo the Immortal Lee County Killers, while Campbell had kept time with the Invisibles and the Rum Circus. The Black Diamond Heavies started gigging in 2004 and self-released an EP called You Damn Right in 2005. The record and especially the BDHs' wildly frantic live shows won them a rabid fan following, especially in the South, but in early 2006 Holder amicably left the band, unhappy with the rigors of life on the road. Myers and Campbell opted not only to continue without Holder, but to not replace him; stripped down to a two-piece, the band's music became even more raw and intense than before, and in the summer of 2006 the band scored a record deal with noted garage punk label Alive Records. The Black Diamond Heavies' first full-length album, Every Damn Time, was released in early 2007.

The Immortal Lee County Killers

Formed in summer 1999 in Auburn, AL, by guitarist Chetley "Cheetah" Weise (formerly of the Quadrajets) and drummer Doug "the Boss" Sherrard. Combining punkish garage rock pathos with the basic elements of Chicago and Mississippi Delta blues, the Immortal Lee County Killers emerged as purveyors of perhaps the loudest and most aggressive blues-based music ever. Using only drums and heavily distorted guitar, the group recorded The Essential Fucked-Up Blues barely four months after forming for Estrus on Weise's eight-track in an dilapidated shack that had served as rehearsal space. Utilizing a switching foot-operated system, Weise pounded out both guitar and bass sounds through seperate amplifiers, both cranked to their limit. A handful of split singles followed on various indie labels. Sherrard departed in early 2001 to be replaced by the loud and flamboyant J.R.R. Token ("the Token One"), also late of the Quadrajets.
