Solarized

Solarized are a New Jersey four-piece founded by Jim Hogan on vocals and guitar and Regina Satana on drums, with Lou Gorra on bass and Pete Hauschild, also on guitar. All are veterans of the local stoner rock scene and their 1999 debut, Neanderthal Speedway, betrayed a strong Monster Magnet influence, actually featuring guest performances from certain members of that band. A split EP with their friends Solace, Jersey Devils, preceded their second effort, simply named Driven, which arrived two years later and introduced new members Dave Topolenski (guitar) and Mike Fiore (bass).

Taint

Welsh hard rock trio Taint have forged a unique style from a broad range of influences, embracing elements of punk, stoner rock, sludge metal, technical metal, and even bits of indie rock, and melding them into a precise, unrelenting attack. Taint were formed in South Wales in 1993 by guitarist and singer James "Jimbob" Isaac, bassist Darren Mason, and drummer Alex Harries. After recording a handful of self-released cassette demos and appearing on a compilation from Household Name Records, Taint released their debut EP, Die Die Truthspeaker, through Household Name in 2000; by this time, Mason had left the group and Stophe had replaced him on bass, though Stophe would leave the band in 2001 and Chris West would take over as Taint's new bassist. Split releases with Black Eye Riot and Army of Flying Robots followed in 2003 and 2005, respectively, along with extensive touring, and in 2005 the group signed with the uncompromising U.K. metal label Rise Above Records. That same year, Rise Above released Taint's first full-length album, the epochal The Ruin of Nová Roma, recorded in California and produced by former Fudge Tunnel guitarist Alex Newport. After rounds of successful touring in the U.K., Europe, and Greece, Taint returned to the studio for their second full-length album, 2007's Secrets and Lies.

The Hunches

The Hunches, from Portland (Oregon), are heirs to the glorious tradition of Northwestern garage-rock. Yes. No. Shut It. (2002) is the sonic equivalent of a carpet bombing campaign. Along the axis of Rolling Stones, MC5 and the Cramps, the Hunches ridicule the very idea of a rock song. Their frenzied "songs" are epileptic fits and at times they even display melodic flair. Hobo Sunrise (2004) is no less lethal, perhaps even more tribal and dissonant. The reckless, breathless, shameless mess evokes underground gods such as Von Lmo and Feedtime.

Regulations

Featuring ex members of ETA, these guys left the wild thrash of their youth behind for a more song driving approach to hardcore. The result was a return to the early LA hardcore roots style. Regulations jam in the crucial style of early Black Flag, Circle Jerks, or Adolescents. Imagine a mix of recent Scandinavian bands like Amdi Petersen's Arme, Young Wasteners, DS 13 or No Hope for the Kids. Regulations deliver some totally off the hook hardcore punk with tunes that will stick in your head after just one listen.
