The Boogie Punkers

The Spaniards Boogie Punkers became known as "a fast rock n' roll, psychotic swing, futuristic rockabilly, surf punk band. The 50's soundtrack mutated for the 21st century". They avoided typical examples, not limiting themselves in one particuler genre. Their first self-titled album was released in 2003, and their second one (suitably entitled The Brooklyn Sessions) was recorded live in Broolkyn, NY. The Boogie Punkers disbanded in 2007, after which their members got into other musical projects.

Hormonas

Let it be known then that the Hormonas take some basic elements of what is known as garage, punk rock and psycho trash-a-billy, and mercilessly whip it up into their own sonic blastings which send them spinning into a maelstrom of tension and barely controlled menace. With hoodoo-voodoo vibes a-plenty, real cool time primitive drumming, played by Michela, and some full-on spidery / echo guitar scratchin’ n slashin’ going on, the band are to be found somewhere on the brink of – dare I mention it – Crampsian mayhem and rockin’ debauchery. Arriving on the scene in Venice, Italy in the early 2000's, the Hormonas have taken their twisted rock’n’roll show on the road all over Italy, and over to London too, sharing bills along the way with everyone from Tav Falco’s Panther Burns, fellow Italians the Rippers, and US musician / producer Tim Kerr. The Hormonas play the kind of stylised dirty and raw, sometimes furious garage punk-blues that certain acts, some currently enjoying global fame status, could only hope to dream about. With the Hormonas, it’s like they’ve got the sound of the suburban teen garage hang-outs, and the ‘gator-infested swamps in their alcohol-soaked veins and play like their very lives depend on it.

Assjack

Assjack is one of the three features of Hank Williams III’s live show, and they started off playing the Hellbilly material throughout 1999-2002, until they evolved in to a strictly hardcore/punk metal band. The band features Hank Williams III on guitar and vocals and Gary Lindsey on vocals. Assjack has had various musicians on all instruments over the years. but, Gary has been consistent on vocals for several years now. Bassist Joe Buck was also a consistent member for many years. However he left the band in 2008 to concentrate on his one man solo show called Joe Buck Yourself. Assjack released 3 bootlegs CD’s and in 2009 they released their first official self titled debut album. The official Assjack album features only Hank III. He does all the instruments & vocals. the album was also recorded & produced by him.

In 1983, childhood friends and schoolmates Jeroen Haamers (guitar) and Johnny Zuidhof (drums) formed the Dutch rockabilly band Batmobile. Recruiting Jeroen’s brother Eric, the band began playing local venues, covering the likes of Elvis, Johnny Burnette and Gene Vincent. After a few years, the group decided to start writing their own material. Their songs were heavely inspired by the rockabilly past but infused with a restless and manic energy. This sound, combined with their purportedly wild live shows, attracted people from the psychobilly scene towards the band. Within some time, record labels began showing interest in Batmobile. In 1985, the group produced their first record, and continued with a successive string of albums that plunged further into the psychobilly sound. The band, however, thought that most of the bands in this genre lacked ‘creativity and musicality’. This is why Batmobile decided to play only their own sound and style, which they begin to call B-music. Like a B-movie, B-music represents bad musicians, cheap humor, horror, naked women and fun times. On the group’s tenth album, they decided to abandon the upright bass, opting for an electric bass in order to become the Motörhead of psychobilly.

The Reverend Horton Heat part I

The Reverend Horton Heat is perhaps the most popular psychobilly artist of all time, really rivaled only by genre founders the Cramps. The Reverend (as both the three-man band and its guitar-playing frontman were known) built a strong cult following during the '90s through constant touring, manic showmanship, and a twisted sense of humor. The latter was nothing new in the world of psychobilly, and Heat's music certainly kept the trashy aesthetic of his spiritual forebears. The Reverend's true innovation was updating the psychobilly sound for the alternative rock era. In his hands, it was something more than retro-obsessed kitsch -- it had roaring distorted guitars, it rocked as hard as any punk band, and it didn't look exclusively to pop culture of the past for its style or subject matter. Most of the Reverend's lyrics were gonzo celebrations of sex, drugs, booze, and cars, and true to his name, his concerts often featured mock sermons in the style of a rural revivalist preacher. His initial recordings were released by that bastion of indie credibility, Sub Pop, at the height of the grunge craze; after a spell on major label Interscope, he returned to the independents, still a highly profitable draw on the concert circuit.

Thee Merry Widows

Thee Merry Widows are Northern California’s original all female psychobilly band. Formed in 2003 by upright bassist Nikki Nightbreed and vocalist Miss Eva von Slut, the girls decided to explore their mutual love of horror/exploitation films, domination, and all things dark. Miss Eva also brings her background in burlesque into the live performances.
Added to the mix was drummer Andrea, who brings her own SciFi sensibility to the band. After a lineup change, the band is rounded out by veteran punk rthymn guitarist Mistress Mandy (formerly of Violet Discord) and punk rock sweetheart Nishone on lead guitar.
The SF Weekly recommends seeing “the psychobilly stylings of Thee Merry Widows (which features the notable presence of buxom blond burlesque queen Miss Eva von Slut),” and the band has been featured in such international fetish magazines as Skin Two and Marquis.
Zero Magazine says “Thee Merry Widows are turning heads around the Bay. An original all-female psychobilly band, these women rock like every night is a party and every show is a special occasion…..This ain’t your mama’s psychobilly… Thee Merry Widows don’t give a damn about their reputation; they just want to rock. If you’re into hot rods, classic pinups, rockin’ and simply having a blast, this five piece will be right up your alley.” (May 2004) and Scary from the Hellbillys calls Thee Merry Widows “(One of our) favorite local bands to play with “ (Zero Magazine, July 2004).
Thee Merry Widows have already opened for and toured with such psychobilly legends as Mad Sin, Nekromantix, the Hellbillys, Hayride to Hell, Chop Tops and the Phenomenauts.
