The Ghastly Ones

The Ghastly Ones are a surf rock n' roll band from Van Nuys, California. They keep it mainly instrumental (as used in the genre) and their music carries a distinct horror b-movie atmosphere, while the band members dress in Halloween costumes. The Ghastly Ones were formed in 1996 and have released 4 full-length albums, apart from a couple of singles and EPs.

The Unknown Passage/Dead Tymes

The Unknown Passage were a greek garage/psych/surf band from Amindeo, Florina. They started in the late-90's and, while they had only one official release, they performed numerous times all over northern Greece. In 2008, two Unknown Passage members (Kostas Hatzis and Manos Hatzitrifonos) created the side-project Dead Tymes, and under this name they self-produced and self-recorded one album.

Los Tiki Phantoms

Los Tiki Phantoms' members are engimatic; all that is known is that they come from known bands from the Catalan scene. One point of distinction is their image: skull masks and leopard collar coats. Musically they move within the surf rock genre, clearly referring to Link Wray, los Straitjackets, the Champs etc, giving also a punk edge to it, demonstrated by the Dead Kennedys cover on their 2006 debut Regresan de la Tumba. Their live shows are rumoured to be devastating.

The Phantom Surfers part I

Surf music revivalists the Phantom Surfers formed in early 1988 around the lineup of guitarists Johnny Bartlett and Mel Bergman, bassist Mike Lucas, and drummer Danny Seelig. Originally founded at the 11th hour to fill a cancelled gig at the University of California Santa Cruz, the group quickly emerged as an underground favorite, famed for their mystery-kitsch image (Lone Ranger masks were de rigeur) and carefully choreographed stage act; the debut Phantom Surfers LP 18 Deadly Ones!!! followed on Norton Records in 1991 amidst a flurry of 7"s, and in the years to follow, the band remained frighteningly prolific, issuing albums and singles on over a dozen different labels (including discs with guitar legends Dick Dale and Davie Allan). In time, Seelig left the group to join the Hi-Fives and was replaced by drummer Russell Quan; in the wake of The Great Surf Crash of '97, Bartlett also handed in his resignation, with Maz Kattuah assuming his guitar duties. 2000's XXX Party featured contributions from comedy legends Rudy Ray "Dolomite" Moore and Clarence "Blowfly" Reid.

The Bahareebas

Zurich-based band the Bahareebas play an eclectic mix of rough 60s surf & garage. They’re inspired by pretty much everything they come across and try to get all these variations into their compositions. Since the early 2008 on the road as a quartet, the Bahareebas try to go back to the very roots of the odd 60s musicscenes. Is it the utterly precise surfguitar of Gigi Galante? The mad fuzz of Phil de Gaulle? The knacking basslines of Sevi Sousol? Or the highflying sticks of Sam LaFontaine? It sure is the blend of everything that gives the bahareebas the true sound they play.

The Invisible Surfers

The Invisible Surfers started out in 1994 in Athens, Greece by Alex Berekos who was also both the guitarist as well as the singer for the legendary rockabilly band, the Blue Jeans, who were active during 1984-1996. They started as a pleasurable recess, and, in the beginning, they were a Link Wray Tribute Band. After the dissolution of the Blue Jeans, all the creative juices were poured into the Invisible Surfers where they created their own songs (moving within instrumental surf rock) and had many followers which helped them make their presence in the lineup of many diverse and musically distinct artists (in comparison to their music) such as the Cramps, Marky Ramone, the Mysterians, the Fuzztones, Flaming Stars as well as Apollo 440 and the Supergrass.

Yawning Man

Yawning Man was born in the middle ‘80s and it’s currently formed by Alfredo Hernandez - drums (ex-Kyuss, ex-Queens of the Stone Age); Mario Lalli - bass (Fatso Jetson, Orquesta del Desierto, Across the River) and Gary Arce - guitars (The Sort of Quartet, Oddio Gasser).
Yawning Man’s music sounds like a melancholic mix of acoustic space rock with elements of surf music, as well as middle eastern guitar style. Yawning Man was responsible for influencing music in the desert and creating a sound which today is still trying to be duplicated.
